The “music of the future…” was a phrase Beethoven used repeatedly, accepting that his musical vision would leave his contemporaries far behind. Op 130 awed and confounded them; it is one of the greatest of all masterpieces and is still deeply radical today! Schumann wrote his only three quartets in as many months – Elias perform them superbly.
